This is a recipe that an old friend had taught me. It’s a recipe from his Mother who is an amazing cook. The Mraz’s come from Czechoslovakia. Yes, I know that is not correct anymore. I’ll tell you why I say that. We were having an excellent meal at the Mraz’s home one day and they were speaking about how they met each other. Mrs. Mraz is from what we would consider Slovakia while Mr. Mraz came from the Czech Republic. I asked them if they considered themselves Slovakian and/or Czech Republican. She said that they were and always be Czechoslovakian.
As for this recipe, I remember that at the time I was taught this recipe I was told that it was called Farmer’s Soup or something. I can’t remember but I do remember the explanation for the name. It is all ingredients that the poor could afford plus it’s very nutritional. In this version of the recipe it calls for chicken stock but I remember using water and salt and pepper. You choose. 3 cans of baked beans with pork
1 white onion, diced
1 large potato, coarsely chopped
1 Hungarian Csabai sausage, thinly sliced
1 can of chicken stock, approx.
Add ingredients to a pot, bring to a boil and then reduce heat and let simmer for 20 minutes. Serve with a dollop of sour cream.
